Today US authorities are expected to evict the remaining water protectors from US Army Corps land north of the Standing Rock reservation.
Amnesty International is calling on authorities to respect the right to peaceful protest and refrain from the use of unnecessary or excessive force. They must also allow journalists and human rights observers unrestricted access.
The organization is also calling on the US government to halt the pipeline, carry out a full environmental review and seek the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s free, prior and informed consent before any construction resumes.
