Amnesty International Ireland has a long-term strategic goal of making real in Ireland
Article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights which
states that “every person has the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and
mental health”. AI is a membership-based campaigning organisation whose mission is to
uphold and defend human rights and has been campaigning in the area of mental health in
Ireland since 2002. AI strongly welcomes the Government’s decision to conduct this long
over-due reform of existing legislation and the Government’s intention to ratify the
International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
