Amnesty International Ireland will be at Electric Picnic from Friday to Sunday, August 28th -30th, to bring the message of human rights to over 80,000 people. And this year will mark our Electric Picnic 18th birthday. Amnesty first attended Electric Picnic in 2006 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Since then, we have brought our campaigns that have attracted thousands to our tent and talks. This includes the ‘It’s Time’ campaign which worked to remove Ireland’s almost-total abortion ban, the ‘I welcome’ campaign for refugee rights, and our campaign on sex workers’ rights. Our message this year is clear. The world order is under attack by predatory states, corporations and anti-rights movements. Ireland’s own Kneecap has been targeted by the UK Government for speaking out in the face of Israel’s genocide. So, what can we do to stop this?
‘Republic of Conscience: Speaking Out Against the Global Disorder’ talk
At the Leviathan tent at 2.15pm Saturday, we’ll be joined by three amazing young poets Amanda Adé, Anna D and Daragh Fleming for our “Republic of Conscience”. They will be speaking out against the global disorder that surrounds us all. We are living in unprecedented times. The entire international system of human rights, justice and peacebuilding painstakingly built over decades, on the ashes of World War II and The Holocaust, now crumbles before our eyes. This system and rules-based global order is under deliberate and concerted attack. It is our children and young people, and generations to come, who will suffer most from the chaos we will have left behind if we cannot turn this around. Join us for this exciting spoken word event and discussion.

- We are urgently calling for the deployment of a protection force in Sudan to protect civilians and deter attacks amid the escalating violence between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. A robust protection force is vital to protect women, children, and at-risk communities, ensuring their safety and facilitating humanitarian aid.
- Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, a Palestinian paediatrician and director of now-destroyed Kamal Adwan hospital in Gaza, has been unlawfully imprisoned in Israel for over 18 months, and his life is at risk due to torture and denial of medical care.
- The Guerreras por la Amazonía are young people fighting to protect their communities from gas flares which are causing toxic fumes and environmental degradation in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
- Call on the Central Bank of Ireland to say no to Israel Bonds. One of the most obvious and effective ways to help end Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is to stop financing it.
