“We’re Still Here” – Open Letters from Direct Provision.
For our “We’re Still Here” series, we invited people who have experienced Direct Provision to write open letters to the Government, telling their stories and reminding decision makers: “We’re Still Here”.
We’re using our platform to amplify these letters from people in Direct Provision – stories of resilience, of the challenges they’ve faced, and of their hopes for a future after Direct Provision ends.
Four well-known faces from Irish life are lending their voices to help us share these powerful and important stories from four Direct Provision residents.
The Government has committed to finally end Direct Provision and replace it with a human rights compliant alternative. This is welcome, but Direct Provision hasn’t gone anywhere. It has lasted more than 21 years and will continue until these commitments are delivered. Until it ends, thousands of people will remain in a system the Government has admitted is not fit for purpose.
We’re still demanding the Government delivers on its commitments. We’re still standing with people seeking protection.
Share these stories. Show your solidarity. Tell the Government you’ll continue to hold them to account until Direct Provision ends.
