Anti-Apartheid Campaign for Palestine

OCTOBER 2023: PLEASE READ OUR JOINT STATEMENT IN THE CURRENT SITUATION IN GAZA.

In February 2022, Amnesty released a report that Israel imposes a system of oppression and domination against Palestinians across all areas under its control: in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), and against Palestinian refugees, in order to benefit Jewish Israelis. This amounts to apartheid as prohibited in international law.

We have joined with over a dozen other Irish NGO’s, individuals and activist groups to form the Anti-Apartheid Campaign for Palestine.

We have two aims:

  1. Have the Irish Government, and others, recognise what is happening as Apartheid under international law.
  2. Bring an end to this crime and ensure human rights for all.

Through shared actions, campaigns and advocacy initiatives our group will engage members of the Irish public and political representatives on the situation of Palestinians, and to build political support for effective measures by Ireland and the international community to condemn Israel’s actions and to end the crime of apartheid against Palestinians.

Mary Manning, the first Dunnes Stores worker to refuse to handle apartheid South Africa’s fruit in July 1984, said: “I fully support the launch of this Ireland-Palestine anti-apartheid campaign. I hoped, after South Africa, that the world was finished with apartheid. Unfortunately, and sadly, that is not the case. Apartheid was not acceptable to the Irish people in the 1980s when we made our stand and it is not acceptable to them in 2022.”
