The Trump administration has manufactured a crisis at the US-Mexico border, using hateful rhetoric to build support for its border policies. The reality is that the numbers of people seeking asylum are some of the lowest in years.
The consequence is that people fleeing violence and persecution are in horrific conditions, in over-crowded shelters or sleeping on the streets, at risk from criminal gangs and traffickers. Claiming asylum is a fundamental right. Pushing them back is illegal.
