On May 25th, the people of Ireland voted overwhelmingly to repeal the Eighth Amendment, removing Ireland’s near-total constitutional ban on abortion once and for all.
1,429,981 of you voted for making Ireland a country that treats women who need abortions with dignity, equality, compassion and respect. This historic vote paves the way for the introduction of human rights compliant abortion laws in Ireland.
Now that the public has spoken, we need to ensure the government delivers on its promise to ensure real access to abortion which respects the human rights and autonomy of women and girls.
Take a stand for women’s rights in Northern Ireland!
We are also working to use the momentum of the repeal vote to show solidarity with activists fighting for sexual and reproductive rights all over the world—and we need your help!
The highest court in the land recently ruled that Northern Ireland’s abortion laws are in breach of the UK’s human rights obligations. Northern Ireland remains the only place in the UK where women can face up to life imprisonment for having an abortion.
Take a moment to act now by calling for Northern Irish women to have access to free, safe and legal abortion.
