Every day, families in the US are being ripped apart by cruel immigration policies. People seeking safety are locked in detention centres where conditions are dangerous, overcrowded, and unsanitary. Medical care is denied, basic rights are ignored, and people are treated cruelly.
These abuses happen across the US – from Florida’s makeshift ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ to other detention facilities – and extend to people forcibly expelled to prisons in El Salvador, like CECOT, where human rights violations are routine. Vulnerable communities across the US live in fear, and urgent action is needed to protect them.
The Trump administration recently passed a budget giving $150 billion to expand deportations and detention, while cutting healthcare, food assistance, and other essential programs. Millions of people, including children, are now at risk of losing access to basic needs.
Amnesty is on the frontlines: documenting abuses, challenging unlawful deportations, providing Know Your Rights resources, and pressuring authorities to uphold human rights.
