With your help, we can end the death penalty everywhere.
In some countries, you can be sentenced to death for acts that should never be
criminalised, like homosexuality. Others use the death penalty against people with mental and intellectual disabilities.
People can spend years on death row, not knowing when their time is up, or whether they will see their families one last time.
We have been working to end executions for 40 years. When we began, only 16 countries had abolished the death penalty. Now that number is 106.
But this cruel and inhuman punishment is far from over. Just last year, we recorded at least 993 executions in 23 countries. Most took place in China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Pakistan.
Thanks to people like you, we’ve been able to monitor, expose and hold governments around the world to account. We need your support to continue this life saving work. Join Amnesty and protect human rights today.
