Dr Scott Warren is a 36-year old Human Rights Defender and humanitarian aid volunteer. The US government is prosecuting him for allegedly “harboring” two undocumented migrants by providing them with humanitarian aid. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
Scott is a geography teacher in Arizona, which has the deadliest border area in the USA. He volunteers with No More Deaths/No Más Muertes to prevent migrant deaths by leaving water and other humanitarian aid in desert areas where migrants have frequently died.
Scott’s arrest came hours after the release of a damning report documenting the wilful destruction by border agents of humanitarian aid supplies in the USA–Mexico border areas.
Criminalising humanitarian aid and the most basic forms of human kindness, regardless of citizenship status, is an attack on human rights.
Tell US authorities to drop all charges against Scott immediately.
