Marielle Franco was murdered over a year ago on 14 March 2018 for speaking up for others.

On 12 March 2019, two people were arrested and accused of participating in the killing of her. However, those who ordered the murder and the motivation for the crime have still not been identified.

In March, Amnesty International and Marielle Franco´s family met Rio de Janeiro State Governor Wilson Witzel and General Prosecutor Eduardo Gussem of the Rio de Janeiro State Prosecutor´s Office. They promised to ensure that investigations into the killings of Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes would continue into all those involved are identified.

The arrest of two suspects of shooting Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes was an important step. But investigations cannot stop until all those involved in the murder are known.

We need to remind the authorities that we will continue to follow the case until we have an answer: who ordered the killing of Marielle Franco? And why?
