On 7 April 2017, the informal Romani settlement of Gianturco was forcibly evicted by local authorities in Naples, southern Italy. The community counted around 1,300 Romanian Roma, however many of them left the settlement in the days before the eviction due to repeated harrasment by authorities, feared how the eviction would be carried out and also were threatened with homelessness by authorities. On the day of the eviction, around 200/300 families were in the settlement. Around 130 of them were moved to a new segregated camp in Via del Riposo - where the previous camp was burnt down by unknown in 2011. Few families were offered as alternative a reception centre described " as a prison" by Roma themselves. Many others moved in temporarily with friends and related around Naples and outside, while others moved into existent informal settlements where they fear being forcibly evicted again. Few families are sleeping rough in their cars.
