Our lobbying work is not new. Since October 2006 a committed group of campaigners have been flying the flag for mental health.Over this time we have consistently called on the Government to implement it’s mental health policy A Vision for Change, as well as demanding financial accountability and cross-departmental response to mental health.We have also focused on specific issues including children’s mental health services, mental health services for asylum seekers and the controversial plans for the relocation of the Central Mental Hospital.

Action 26 - Questions to the Government on the third anniversary of A Vision for Change

Action 25 - Calling on the Government to mount a comprehensive review of the Mental Health Act (2001) to avoid the need for ad hoc amendments in the future.

Action 24 - Criticising Budget 2009 for failing to allocate promised resources to Mental Health and requesting an update on the government’s commitments to tackle the over-reliance on medication in medical health services.

Action 23 - On the need for a cross-departmental approach to implementing A Vision for Change- all departments have responsibility in this.

Action 22 - The issue of informed consent to treatment.

Action 21 - The second report published by the Independent Monitoring Group on A Vision for Change. It criticised the slow progress, lack of systematic implementation and lack of leadership.

Action 20 - Concern at the huge levels of mental distress experienced by asylum seekers and refugees in Ireland. Asylum seekers are five times more likely to be diagnosed with mental illness in general practice than Irish citizens.
 

Action 19 - The government controversial plans to move the Central Mental Hospital (CMH) from Dundrum to the new prison site at Thornton Hall in North County Dublin.
