Water has become a major concern in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The Israeli authority’s policy has been, and remains, to limit the overall amount of water available to the Palestinian population, while preserving for itself privileged access to most of the water and land in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
In the 22-day Israeli military offensive (Operation “Cast Lead”) in Gaza between 27 December 2008 and 18 January 2009 some 1,400 Palestinians were killed, including some 300 children, and large areas of Gaza were razed to the ground, leaving many thousands homeless and the already dire economy in ruins.
More than 1.4 million Palestinian men, women, and children are trapped in the Gaza Strip – in an area of land just 40 kilometres long and 9.5 kilometres wide.
