Amnesty is having a casting call and everyone’s invited
Amnesty International Ireland has launched a nationwide hunt for people to take part in an exciting new social media project as part of its mental health campaign.
Colm O’Gorman, Executive Director of Amnesty International Ireland said: “We’re going to be collecting video messages from all over the country for the next four weeks. We want people to record short messages in support of the right to mental health. They can do it alone or in groups, at home or in their schools or at work. Anywhere you can hold up a mobile phone or a camera and make a film.
“We’re then going to use these videos to make a powerful campaigning film to be launched across the web. Your video will join others to send a clear message direct to Brian Cowen demanding he make mental health a political priority. Mental health has been neglected by successive Irish governments and Irish people need to demand change now.
“Amnesty International Ireland has the largest Facebook presence of any Irish NGO. We’re going to harness the latest social media technology to mobilise people in support of our mental health and human rights campaign in a way never attempted before in Ireland.”
The exciting new project is being undertaken in partnership with Tengger, one of Ireland’s most innovative production companies. Eoin Lynch from Tengger said: “To support this campaign you can record footage on any type of device - from a mobile phone to a 32mm cinema scope camera and then email it to us at info@tengger.ie.”
Mr O’Gorman added: “Since its foundation nearly 50 years ago, Amnesty International owes much of its success to individual people who have stood up for universally recognised human rights. We have more than 2.2 million members and supporters internationally, with more than 15,000 of those based in Ireland.
“To do this we need video footage from as many people as possible so log onto Amnesty.ie or our Facebook page to find out how you can get involved.”
