Become a school speaker

School Speakers are crucial links that bridge the gap between learning about human rights in the classroom and becoming active in defending human rights outside the classroom.
We receive a large number of requests for speakers every year – over 80 in 2010/2011 – and our volunteer school speakersarethe way in which we make sure that the demand for speakers on human rights topics can be met. As an Amnesty International school speaker you will receive:
- A dedicated training which will give you information on human rights theory, Amnesty International campaigns and how to speak to a group of people
- Monthly email updates on current human rights issues, and how to link those issues to talks in a classroom setting.
The ultimate goal of the school speaker programme is to grow the number of school groups in Ireland that are taking action on human rights abuses around the world. As well as promoting awareness of human rights, school speakers are absolutely vital to ensuring that more and more young people join Amnesty International.
