Tax Refund
Tax Refunds Q&A
Tax refunds are an incredibly important part of our income and help to fund a lot of our vital work. It costs you nothing and does not affect your tax situation in any way, but makes your gift to us go so much further. We will be sending you a simple form for you to sign and as long as you are a PAYE taxpayer, don’t use self-assessment for any part of your income, and give us over €250 a year, we can reclaim the tax. Please do sign the form and return it when it arrives!
Q. What do I need to do?
A. Just look out for the tax reclaim forms we will post to you. We will send a reminder if you forget to send back the first. You simply sign and return and we will do everything else.
Q. What is the total amount of donations that qualify for tax relief?
A. Donations that total €250 or more in the full tax year.
Q. I am not a PAYE taxpayer but my partner is. What do I do?
A. As a married couple, either party can sign the form. However, please remember to ensure that the person who does pay PAYE enters their name, PPS number and signature on the form. Your PPS number appears on all tax and social welfare correspondence.
Q. I’m a pensioner – does this apply to me?
A. If you only receive the state pension, then you do not pay income tax. But if you have any other income at all, you probably pay some tax. Amnesty may be able to claim on this amount.
Q. My tax rate is personal, will this information remain confidential?
A. Absolutely. Your details are confidential to Amnesty International and the Revenue and will not be used for anything other than the tax claim.
