Human Rights in Ireland Intern

The Human Rights in Ireland (HRII) programme is Amnesty’s campaign on economic and social rights. One aspect of this work is the campaign on access to health in Ireland. We are looking for an intern with a strong interest in campaign planning and organisation and web based activism to assist us in this work.
The Human Rights in Ireland intern will work on a variety of projects and tasks in the development of this campaign, decided in conjunction with the HRII campaign officer.
Internship Details
Hours of work: 20 hours a week
Duration: Six months starting November 2010
Reports to: Human Rights in Ireland Campaigns Officer
Remuneration: Local public transport reimbursement and daily lunch allowance

The primary responsibilities for this internship include but are not limited to:
- Working with the campaigns officer to implement a strategy for the co-ordination of activist activities for the HRII campaign.
- Organising logistics for regional training events throughout Ireland.
- Liaising with activists throughout the country in the provision of information, responding to requests and collating feedback on the campaign.
- Assisting in the preparation of accessible, creative campaign materials.
- Assisting in the development of the website, to ensure an effective and creative communication and campaigning vehicle is developed including:
- Input into development of web layout and structure.
- Creative input to encourage web sign-ups for an online campaign petition.
- Compilation and development of online content.
- Assisting in the planning and organisation of campaign events with key partners including other non-governmental organisations and individuals throughout the country. Events will include a high profile launch of the campaign.
- Office administrative tasks including preparation of mail shots, photocopying, responding to routine correspondence, etc.
Skills Required:
- Proven ability to work on your own initiative
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Ability to prioritise projects
- Advanced communication skills: verbal and written
- Document layout, web page and design experience a distinct advantage
- Keen interest in and/or experience in e-campaign strategies
- Keen interest in and/or experience in grassroots organising, activism and empowerment
- Keen interest in and/or experience working on issues of equality and access to health
- Keen interest in the aims and objectives of Amnesty International
- Creativity
- Flexibility
