Human Rights in Ireland Intern

Are you interested in working in the human rights field? Do you have an interest, experience and commitment to human rights? Are you motivated, enthusiastic and flexible? If so, Amnesty International may be looking for you!

The Human Rights in Ireland (HRII) programme is Amnesty’s campaign on economic and social rights. The Human Rights in Ireland intern works on a variety of projects and tasks, decided in conjunction with the HRII team, on the basis of the needs of the Section and the experience, competencies, and interests of the intern.

Internship Details

Hours of work: 20 hours a week
Duration: Six months starting July 2010
Reports to: Human Rights in Ireland Co-ordinator
Remuneration: Local public transport reimbursement and daily lunch allowance

The primary responsibilities for this internship include but are not limited to:

  • Research in to human rights standards in Ireland;
  • Responding to requests for human rights information from the public;
  • Research on political party positions on human rights, with a specific focus on economic, social and cultural rights;
  • Coordinating and contributing to the organisation of events and meetings with key partners including other non-governmental and governmental organisations, and individuals;
  • Assisting the Human Rights in Ireland team in planning a high-profile activism, lobbying and campaigning project;
  • Preparation of accessible web materials on the campaign;
  • Assisting the team in identifying and developing new opportunities and initiatives in campaigning and lobbying for Amnesty Ireland by monitoring current trends and events, as well as contributing to team meetings and planning processes.

Skills Required:

  • Fluent English speaker
  • Excellent written, computer and communication skills
  • Keen interest in and/or experience working for human rights organisations
  • A qualification in human rights would be desirable though not essential.
