Advocacy Intern

Hours of work: 20 hours per week
Duration: Minimum of six months
Reports to: Research and Legal Team

 

Main tasks:

The intern is required to assist the Research and Legal Team with the management of the Section’s lobbying on Ireland.

Primary tasks would be decided in conjunction with Research and Legal Team on the basis of needs of the Section and the experience, competencies and interests of intern/volunteer but would include:

Assisting Research and Legal Manager in:

  • The preparation, management, and delivery of lobbying materials to appropriate government agencies, political parties and other organisations as appropriate
  • The preparation of comments/submissions on Irish law and policy, and their circulation to parliamentarians, Government Departments or other agencies
  • Organising meetings, seminars and conferences related to AI’s domestic lobbying
  • Preparation of materials for publication on the AI Ireland website
  • Establishing and maintaining a database of key contacts in state and nonstate agencies for the purposes of Amnesty’s lobbying, and recording those relationships
  • Office administrative tasks including responding to routine correspondence, photocopying, etc. related to lobbying

Skills Required:

  • Fluent speaker and writer of English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Knowledge of and interest in Irish political structures
  • Keen interest in and/or experience in Amnesty International and its mission
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, with experience in Lotus Notes an advantage
  • Sense of humour
  • Flexibility
